Gaithersburg Teen Struck By Police Car After Game

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A teenager is seriously injured after she was struck by a police cruiser on its way to a fight that broke out after a high school football game in Montgomery County.

The accident happened Friday night near Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg. Police say the 15-year-old student was struck when she stepped into the roadway between two police cars arriving with emergency lights flashing.

Principal Scott Murphy said in a statement that a 10th grader was struck. He says that she was in stable condition Saturday and was alert and talking to doctors. Murphy says the fight that was reported took place off school property.

Montgomery County police identified the officer involved in the collision as Cpl. Raymond Bennett. He has been placed on leave during an investigation.
