Up To 60 Bats Removed From High School

CRISFIELD, Md. (AP) -- Wildlife removal specialists are working to evict bats that have taken up residence at a Somerset County high school.

Delmarva Wildlife Control, which specializes in trapping and relocating small animals, has removed as many as 60 bats from Crisfield High School.

The company has been to the school four times since July 30 to deal with the problem.

Leo Lawson, a spokesman for the school system, says that as of Wednesday about 15 bats remained in the building.

Lawson says custodians have seen the bats swooping through the auditorium, gym and cafeteria. However, he says the problem is not a new one.

Workers have reported seeing bats at the school for the past 15 to 20 years.
