Local Celebrities Test Their Knowledge In 'Are You Smarter Than A 6th Grader?' Fundraiser

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Are you smarter than a sixth grader? This weekend a special fundraiser for Sisters Academy of Baltimore will test a panel of local celebrities, including one from WJZ.

Mary Bubala has the story.

Sisters Academy of Baltimore is a tuition-free middle school for girls on limited economic means.

But they are rich in brain power and ready to show it at the school's second annual "Are You Smarter Than A 6th Grader?" fundraiser.

"I like to be on stage and to show people what we learn here," said Victoria Vanderlipp, seventh-grader.

"I am excited about being in it because I have never been in anything like this live, and I am really looking forward to doing it," said Kavon Atkinson, sixth-grader.

The girls will participate on teams with local celebrities. WJZ anchor Denise Koch is team captain of Lady Cerebellum.

"This event is fantastic because it involves our students and families and celebrities, and all of our donors come and we just have a great time together," said Sister Delia Dowling, president of Sisters Academy.

All the money raised at the event will go to the student's education, and these girls are becoming the next leaders in their communities.

"It challenges me physically, academically and spiritually," said Kashmia Nichols, eighth-grader.

Tickets are still available for "Are You Smarter Than A 6th Grader." It's this Saturday at Goucher College.
