Metro Finishes Escalator Project At Dupont Circle

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro says it's completed an eight-and-a-half month escalator replacement project at the Dupont Circle station.

The transit system on Sunday opened three new escalators at the station's south entrance.

Metro General Manager Richard Sarles says the project was necessary because the old escalators at the south entrance were among the least reliable in the system, and the original manufacturer had gone out of business.

Metro has a multi-year plan to improve escalator service. It plans to replace 94 escalators over the next seven years.
