2 Groups Now Planning Protest At Gallaudet

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Supporters and opponents of gay marriage in Maryland are now planning to rally at Gallaudet University for the reinstatement of an administrator who signed a petition opposing gay marriage.

Angela McCaskill was placed on paid leave as chief diversity at Gallaudet, a university for the deaf and hard of hearing in Washington, after administrators learned that she signed the petition. She has said she's not anti-gay but thinks Maryland voters should decide whether gay marriage should be legal.

Ministers who support gay marriage were already planning a rally Thursday at the campus. Now, the National Black Church Initiative, which opposes gay marriage, is planning a protest at the same time. Both groups are calling for McCaskill to be reinstated.

The university hasn't issued a definitive statement about McCaskill's future.
