Elko Leads Delaware State Past Morgan State

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Nick Elko threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns to help Delaware State beat Morgan State 28-23 on Thursday night for its fourth straight victory.

Elko was 33 of 43 without an interception for the Hornets (5-2, 4-1 MEAC). Travis Tarplay had 12 catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns, Justin Wilson added eight receptions for 100 yards, and Dae-Hon Cheung ran for 80 yards on 12 carries and caught four passes for 36 yards.

Tyrone Hendrix returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown for Morgan State (3-5, 2-3), and Travis Davidson ran for 82 yards on 21 carries. Robert Council was 13 of 19 for 68 yards and also ran three times for 42 yards and two scores. The Bears have lost three straight.

Council opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 41-yard run. Elko tied it early in the second with a 4-yard pass to Tarplay, but Hendrix returned the kickoff for this score.

Elko tied it again with a 13-yard touchdown pass and the Bears took a 20-14 lead on Mitchel Ward's 31- and 24-yard field goals late in the quarter.

Delaware State made it 28-14 in the third on Nagee Jackson's 2-yard run, and Elko's 2-point conversion pass. Council had a 5-yard scoring run in the third, and Erwin Gonzalez added a 39-yard field goal in the fourth.
