Former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon Charged With Probation Violation
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland corrections officials say former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is more than $13,000 behind on her court-ordered charitable contributions.
Dixon is serving a term of probation for theft and perjury charges. She was charged on Monday with violating her probation.
Dixon agreed to contribute $45,000 to charity. State prison system spokesman Mark Vernarelli says agency documents show that Dixon is $13,640 in arrears on those payments. She has paid $19,000 so far.
Dixon, a Democrat, resigned in 2010 after she pleaded guilty to lying about gifts from her former boyfriend, a developer who received tax breaks from the city. She was also convicted of stealing about $500 in gift cards donated to the city for needy families.
She is due in court Dec. 7 on the probation violation.
