Wise Defeats Quince Orchard 12-7 For 4A Title
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Isaiah Black threw a touchdown pass with 2:14 remaining and Dr. Henry Wise won a defensive struggle against Quince Orchard 12-7 Friday night for the Maryland Class 4A state title.
The Pumas (14-0) capped an undefeated season and won their first state football championship while the Cougars (12-2) lost in the state title game for the second year in a row.
Black connected with tight end Micah Till on a 23-yard scoring strike to give Wise the lead.
Quince Orchard (12-2) marched deep into Wise territory on its next possession, but Pumas' defensive back Joseph Shelton intercepted a Matt Choi pass at his own 1-yard-line with 30 seconds remaining to preserve the victory.
The Cougars scored the only touchdown of the second quarter on a 1-yard run by D'Andre Johnson. Wise opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 5-yard run by Chase Powell.
