Florida Gulf Coast Beats Loyola (Md.) 65-50

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) -- Sherwood Brown led Florida Gulf Coast with 14 points and seven rebounds as the Eagles beat Loyola (Md.) 65-50 Saturday night in a nonconference game.

Bernard Thompson finished with 13 points and Brett Comer chipped in 10 for Florida Gulf Coast (6-3).

Florida Gulf Coast opened the game on a 14-6 run, with all five starters scoring during the early stretch.

Brown scored 10 points in the first half as the Eagles led at halftime 34-26.

Loyola (7-2) failed to keep up in the second half. Florida Gulf Coast started the second half with a 10-2 run to build a 16-point lead, 44-28.

The Eagles dominated in fast-break points, outscoring the Greyhounds in transition 20-0.

Jordan Latham led Loyola with 17 points. Dylon Cormier chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

This was the first loss for the Greyhounds in their last six contests.
