Mikulski, Cardin, Push For Superstorm Sandy Aid

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Maryland's congressional delegation is supporting an appeal for additional help for individuals affected by Superstorm Sandy.

They sent a letter on Wednesday to President Barack Obama to support Gov. Martin O'Malley's appeal for individual disaster assistance for five Maryland counties: Dorchester, Garrett, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester.

Obama approved O'Malley's request for a major disaster declaration. However, the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Maryland's request for individual disaster assistance.

That type of aid provides housing assistance and disaster-related support for families and individuals coping with the immediate aftermath of the storm.
