Ex-Trooper Charged With Soliciting A Minor

ELKTON, Md. (AP) -- The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says it has arrested a former probationary state trooper on charges that he solicited a 16-year-old high school student for prostitution.

Deputies arrested Joshua Michael Wright, 21, of Elkton on Thursday. He was indicted on charges of sexual solicitation of a minor for purposes of prostitution, solicitation of prostitution, and two counts of attempted obstruction of justice.

Authorities say in November, a 16-year-old girl reported a text message to school personnel. Deputies say Wright solicited sex acts for money from the girl, whom Wright knew through a common acquaintance.

State police say Wright graduated from the academy in July and was assigned to patrol duties in Easton. Troopers are on probation for 18 months after graduation.

A state police spokesman says Wright was fired Friday.
