Retired Firefighter, Led By Dog, Rescues Woman
BOWIE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a retired firefighter pulled a woman from her burning house after her dog directed him to her location.
Spokesman Mark Brady says firefighters arrived at the Bowie residence about 10 a.m. Friday. Retired Lt. Billy Mills, who had been driving nearby, saw smoke and went to the scene.
Brady says while firefighters put on their equipment, Mills checked on the rear of the home and saw a black lab frantically running around the back yard. Brady says when the dog saw Mills, the animal went to the sliding glass doors of the house and barked repeatedly.
Mills saw a woman on her knees in the house, surrounded by smoke. Brady says Mills entered the house and pulled the woman to safety.
