Web Page Provides Fort Detrick Biolab Safety Info

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- A new web page is providing details about safety at biocontainment laboratories at Fort Detrick.

The web page began posting data earlier this month about incidents at laboratories at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick. Fort Detrick is home to the military's main biological defense laboratory and a number of federal agency biodefense labs. Scientists at Fort Detrick research some of the deadliest diseases and biological agents known to man.

The Frederick News-Post reports that the page shows there were nine potential exposures at level 3 labs and one at a level 4 lab in 2011. The page says data for 2012 should be posted during the first quarter of 2013.
