Metro Plans To Add 327 Jobs, Many For Silver Line

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is proposing to add more than 300 new jobs in the next budget year.

The Washington Examiner reports that, if approved, the move would be the ninth straight year that the transit agency has expanded its workforce.

After adding 327 new positions, Metro would have nearly 12,700 employees on staff. That doesn't include hundreds of contractors.

Metro's budget proposal says 98 of the new jobs are for the new silver line in northern Virginia, which will eventually take passengers to Washington Dulles Airport. The first phase of the silver line is scheduled to open in December.
