Diver Dies At Aberdeen Proving Ground
ABERDEEN, Md. (AP) -- Officials at the Aberdeen Proving Ground say an engineering technician died while performing maintenance at an underwater test facility at the Army site.
Forty-one-year-old George Lazzaro Jr. of Nottingham, a diver, died Thursday while completing routine underwater test infrastructure maintenance at the Super Pond. APG officials say the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. and emergency personnel from local agencies as well as from the facility responded.
Officials say the cause of Lazzaro's death has not been determined; an autopsy will be conducted. The Arny is investigating the cause of the accident.
The Super Pond is used to conduct shock test programs, as well as other research and development and test and evaluation efforts.
