Dr. Ben Carson Challenges President Obama's Health & Economic Policies

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Baltimore's most famous doctor takes on President Barack Obama.World renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson makes national headlines, speaking out against the president's policies--with the president just feet away.

Adam May has a look at the enormous impact of the speech.

From Rush Limbaugh to Sean Hannity, conservatives are lining up behind this Baltimore doctor.

Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson took on President Obama's health care and economic policies during the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C. just over a week ago.

"Moral decay, fiscal irresponsibility, they destroyed themselves. And if you don't think that can happen to America, you get out your books and you start reading," Carson said.

The speech received cheers by conservative pundits.

"Amazing speech. Move over president. The doctor's in the house," Hannity said.

A Wall Street Journal editorial even calls on Carson to run for president.

"Running for president requires more than making a good speech," said Dr. Lester Spence.

Spence specializes in black politics at Hopkins. He has a theory about the Republican embrace of Carson.

"The simple reading—it's not right-- but the simple reading is that 'Wow, if we can find someone black and intelligent who thinks like us, we can get back on the path to political success,'" Spence said.

Carson says he's unsure about a political future.

"As I always say in every part of my life, I will leave that up to God," Carson said.

Since the speech, Carson's book has soared to number one on Amazon's bestseller list, and he's appeared on numerous conservative talk shows.

After the breakfast, President Obama shook Carson's hand and congratulated him on the speech.
