Hagerstown Mayor Asks Governor For Stadium Funds

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Hagerstown's mayor is asking Gov. Martin O'Malley for $10 million to help build a new stadium for the minor-league Hagerstown Suns.

According to The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, the letter from Mayor David Gysberts says $10 million would cover a third of the cost of the stadium.

Former mayor Robert Bruchey made a similar request last year. Gysberts wrote that he's extending the request because the city doesn't yet have a location for the facility.

He says the stadium would have multiple uses and is important if the city wants to retain the Suns. He adds that it would create jobs and help revitalize downtown Hagerstown.
