Police: Victims Found In Burning Car Were Shot Before Fire Was Set

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A murder mystery in Northwest Baltimore. Firefighters find two bodies inside a burning vehicle.

Now as Gigi Barnett explains, investigators say the two were shot before that car went up in flames.

City firefighters rushed to an alley in Northwest Baltimore just before daybreak Friday morning. Next to the trash and debris was a car fire in the 2100-block of N. Monroe Street.

Firefighters worked to put out the flames. Soon after, they found two unidentified bodies stashed in the vehicle.

"The bodies were burned pretty badly, and our arson unit is continuing to work with the fire department," said Detective Jeremy Silbert. "We will have the bodies go to the medical examiner this weekend for an autopsy."

Jerome Diggs' daughter lives just a few blocks away from the scene. He says he visits her frequently and called to tell her what happened in her neighborhood.

"I said, `Oh my God.' I mean it's getting ridiculous out here," Diggs said.

While police try to figure out who the victims are and how they died, firefighters say the cause of the blaze is also a mystery.

Police say it could take a week or more to determine who those victims are.
