Mistrial Declared In Double Murder Trial

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Prince George's County judge has declared a mistrial in the case of a man accused of killing a nurse and her daughter.

A week into 29-year-old Jason Scott's trial, Judge Michael Whalen on Monday declared the mistrial after testimony that Scott was allegedly involved in numerous home invasions. Whalen had previously ruled that only one alleged home invasion was admissible.

Scott is accused of strangling Delores Dewitt, 42, a nurse, and her 20-year-old daughter, Ebony, in 2009. He was sentenced in January 2012 to 100 years in prison for dozens of armed home invasions and burglaries in Maryland.

Prosecutors say a new trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 15.
