Family Of Missing Stevensville Woman To Hold Community Search This Weekend

KENT ISLAND, Md. (WJZ) -- Gone without a trace. That's the reality an Eastern Shore family is dealing with.

As police continue to search for their mother, the family is helping investigators with a search of their own.

Gigi Barnett has details.

State police are calling the disappearance of Robin Pope suspicious. Her family is too. Thursday, her family spoke with us about the search for their mother and the hope that they have that she'll be found, safe and sound.

"It's unusual, it's not like her. It's just really hard," said Rachael Pope, daughter.

Rachael Pope and Priscilla Hastings have been searching for their mother, 51-year-old Robin Pope, for nearly a week now. As police conduct several critical missing person searches on Kent Island and in the Chesapeake, Pope's disappearance is odd to her daughters, who kept in constant contact with their mother.

"I get about 10 phone calls from her, and if I don't get back to her within the hour, she freaks out and is worried that something happened to me," said Rachael Pope.

So when the roles reversed last week, Rachael frantically called her big sister, who lives thousands of miles away in California.

"And I woke up again to text messages that she was scared she hadn't heard from mom and I flew out immediately," said Hastings.

No one has seen or heard from Robin Pope since Friday. Police say she returned to her house to retrieve some personal belongings. Her estranged husband, Wayne Pope Jr., was there. He told police that he left shortly after she arrived and he returned a few hours later, only to find her car still in the driveway. Robin Pope had vanished.

"We're just hoping that we find her safe and sound," said Rachael Pope.

The family's plea for help is quickly spreading over several Internet websites. They're even organizing a search of their own this weekend. The sisters say they have to stay optimistic that someone will find Robin Pope.

"We're going to find her. Just come forward with anything you have," Hastings said.

State police say they are not limiting their search for Robin Pope to Kent Island. Detectives have entered her name into a national missing persons database.
