Edmondson Beats Wicomico 56-54 For Class 2A Title

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Darius Walker made a driving bank shot as time ran out to give Edmondson a 56-54 victory over Wicomico in the Class 2A state title game Saturday.

Walker sliced through the lane to throw a soft left-handed shot off the glass and break a 54-54 tie. The shot went in just before the buzzer and gave Edmondson (22-5) its first state title in school history.

Walker, a guard, led the Red Storm with 15 points. Myrek Fowlkes added 13.

Free throws were crucial to the Edmondson win since the Red Storm shot only 32.2 percent (19 of 59) from the field. Edmondson made 17 of 21 from the line, hitting 13 of 15 during a shaky first half that ended with Wicomico (25-2) leading 36-33.

Thomas Brown led Wicomico with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Larry Ennis added 13 points and Nelson Brown chipped in 11 points.
