Elvis Dumervil Is Newest Raven

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's official.  Pass rusher Elvis Dumervil is the newest Baltimore Raven.

Mark Viviano reports.

Dumervil passed his physical Tuesday, and put his John Hancock on a 5-year, $35 million contract.

Dumervil was a star linebacker with the Broncos. The linebackers coach was key in bringing him to Baltimore since they worked together then.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh referred to him as a premiere defensive player in the NFL.

"We knew right away that Elvis would be a perfect fit," said Harbaugh.

"This is just awesome.  I'm excited about being a Raven...to fit in and be a part of the family," said Dumervil. "When the opportunity came that I could come to another winning organization and a first class one...I took it."

He'll switch jersey numbers and go back to his college number of 58. Dumervil's pro number from Denver is 92.  But that number has been taken for eight years on the back of Haloti Ngata.

"He's our kind of guy...he fits us.  We respect him as a player and I'm excited to have him," said Harbaugh.

He says he appreciates how Baltimore is a football town.

"I think it's a blessing," Dumervil said.
