Orioles Play In Front Of Soldout Crowd In Home Opener

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — It was Opening Day at Camden Yards and a great start to the baseball season in Baltimore. The whole city is back in orange, coming off an exciting hometown win.

Meghan McCorkell has been out with the fans.

It was a sellout crowd at Camden Yards, and they got quite a show as the O's took on the Minnesota Twins.

"Goodbye! Home run! Chris Davis, a grand slam homer!"

It was a grand way to cap off Opening Day at Camden Yards.

"It blew my mind. It couldn't have come at a better time. It was so exciting. This is like Orioles Magic," said Terry Stewart.

Last year's magic seems to be stretching into this season.

"I think the Orioles made all of us so proud and we're all so pumped up. There's a great feeling at this Opening Day game today," said Governor Martin O'Malley.

"My predictions are to win the World Series, just like the Baltimore Ravens. Let's Go!" a fan said.

One member of that championship Ravens team turned out to support the home team.

"I almost caught a foul ball, but it was like 15 rows away so I really didn't. I felt like I was right there," said Ravens offensive guard Jah Reid.

More than 46,500 people packed the ballpark to watch the O's take a bite out of the Twins.

And a soldout crowd at Camden Yards means big business for Baltimore.

"It would be such an incredible economic opportunity to have the stands filled more than 80 times a year. It would be such a great economic boom," said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

With the win, fans have high hopes for a big season.

"We're ready. We're going to the World Series this year, absolutely," said Jermoni Dowd.

"We're going all the way. They're going to repaint that wall right there just so they can add another yellow flag and another orange flag. They're going to have to repaint the whole wall," said Sean Rutledge.

Instead of throwing out a first pitch, the O's held a tribute to legendary manager Earl Weaver. The team will wear a #4 patch on their jerseys all season long.

Lots of new food options are also at the stadium this season.

Oriole park executive chef Josh Distenfeld has details on some of those tasty treats:

After two more games against the Twins this weekend, the O's are back on the road.
