Fee Increases Debated For Hagerstown Airport

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Officials in western Maryland plan to discuss this week raising user fees at the Hagerstown Regional Airport.

The Washington County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday to discuss proposed fee increases for airplane hangars, offices and fees for landing and ramps.

The fees would go into effect on July 1 if adopted.

Assistant County Administrator Sarah L. Sprecher tells the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that this is the first time since 2008 that rent might be increased for hangars. Officials expect the fee increase to produce $17,000 in extra revenue.

Officials are looking at funding options to keep the airport's air-traffic control tower open. They're concerned the tower might need to close if federal funding is cut off.

Another hearing Tuesday will address possible water and sewer rate increases
