PARKVILLE, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County police say investigators have determined that a man spotted carrying a gun near an elementary school was carrying an unloaded, antique rifle.

Police say investigators are not sure if the weapon can fire and an investigation is ongoing. Police say they received a call about 3:30 p.m. Monday reporting that a man was carrying what appeared to be a shotgun near Villa Cresta Elementary School.

Authorities say the item was pointed at the ground and was not used in a threatening manner. The man also did not attempt to enter the school or interact with anyone before getting into a van and leaving the area.
