SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A national organization that represents companies that make and sell uniforms has named the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office as best dressed.

The North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors selected the Shore law enforcers for its 2013 Best Dressed Public Safety Awards in the Sheriff’s Office category.

The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that Sheriff Mike Lewis changed the office’s uniforms after his election in 2006. The standard uniforms are gray and black. There are other uniforms for other situations, such as the black work utility uniform that dog handlers can wear.

The association said about 235 entries were submitted across different categories. Among the criteria used to select winners were innovative uses of fabric and color and having uniforms that allow law enforcers to do their jobs.
