More Than 1,500 Volunteers Expected Across Md., D.C., Va.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- About 500 volunteers are expected to help beautify the campuses of two District of Columbia schools as part of a nationwide volunteer effort led by Comcast.

On Saturday, volunteers will be working to improve the grounds at the Parkside High School campus of Cesar Chavez Public Charter School and Neval Thomas Elementary School. Volunteers from Comcast and City Year will paint murals, create vegetable gardens and improve landscaping.

The Comcast Cares Day volunteer effort is expected to include more than 1,500 volunteers across the region.

In Maryland, the company is joining Boys and Girls Clubs in Calvert, Charles and Frederick counties for service projects.

Projects are also planned in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

In northern Virginia, volunteers will be making improvements at an Alexandria senior center and other sites.
