Man Pleads Guilty To Shooting Ex-Girlfriend

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend after an argument over her rejection of his marriage proposal has pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder.

Prosecutors say Dominic Matthews, 40, entered the plea this week while his trial was underway in Baltimore City Circuit Court. He faces a maximum of 23 years in prison at sentencing July 15.

Prosecutors say on Jan. 17, 2012, Matthews broke into his ex-girlfriend's house and argued with her about her refusal to marry him. Authorities say Matthews pulled out a revolver and shot the woman in the lower abdomen. She was treated at Shock Trauma.
