Lawyer Wants Accused Prison Scandal Gang Leader Transferred

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A lawyer for an inmate accused of leading a jailhouse gang in Maryland is asking that his client be moved out of state.

Gary Proctor, a lawyer for Tavon White, says the conditions of White's confinement at a state prison in Cumberland make it hard for him to prepare a defense.

He says it's "nigh on impossible" to share documents with his client when they have to communicate through glass. He asked a federal judge Tuesday for a hearing on his request to have White moved out-of-state.

White was one of 25 people, including 13 female corrections officers, indicted last month in a contraband smuggling conspiracy at the Baltimore City Detention Center.

The indictment states White had sex with and impregnated multiple corrections officers.
