Glenn Younes: Lardarius Webb Charity Softball

Sunday June 2nd at Ripken Stadium was packed to the brim and it wasn't for a single A game or HOF'er Cal Ripken... But for the Super Bowl champs and a charity softball game.

Lardarius Webb had tons of children from the Boys & Girls Club out along with many fans (6k or so) of Baltimore's best football players.

A young girl sang the National Anthem to start the day, Sam Koch and Bobby Rainey closed out the evening with many monster homer runs in the impromptu home run derby. In the game, as expected, the offense scored & scored & scored some more, even this loudmouth radio show host doubling as the MC hit a 3 run home run. And the defense did what they do, kept the scoring to a minimum, a blow out to say the least. Offense smashed the defense and it wasn't close.

Jimmy Smith pitched for the defense, serving up meatballs while Craig (head of team security) and Long Snapper Morgan Cox shared duties on the mound for the offense.

It was a great turnout of fans, our station was broadcasting live as Bob Haynie & Steve Kolbe were hosting with Jerry Coleman on the field. Jeremy Conn, Mark Zinno & I were players on the winning team & we all held our own with hits, runs and high fives.

Ravens rookies Matt Elam, Arthur Brown & Brendon Williams were in attendance. Brown was in street clothes coming off hernia surgery. Bryan Hall "helped" me with the mic duties which added to the laughs and fun of the day.

The Host Lardarius Webb coming off ACL surgery didn't play but took a few hacks at the plate and almost hit a home run to center field, he had boys from the boys and girls club run the bases for him.

Fun, family, foundation and a little softball at Ripken stadium, a great way to spend a Sunday. Thanks to the Lardarius Webb Foundation for allowing us to participate, if the fans had as much fun as I did it was a smashing success.
