Cumberland Close On New Site For Fireworks Display
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Officials in Cumberland are finalizing a deal with a private landowner for a new location for the city's annual Independence Day fireworks display.
City Fire Marshal Lt. Shannon Adams tells The Times-News of Cumberland that officials will announce the new location as soon as paperwork is complete.
The city was forced to find a new site after learning that Constitution Park, which was renovated at the center to include an above-ground structure, no longer met fire code requirements. Those requirements mandate a certain distance from any building that would be occupied at the time of a fireworks display.
Adams says he thinks the new location will be better than the old one.
