EEOC Files Lawsuit Against Virginia-Based Company

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against a Virginia-based company.

The commission announced the lawsuit Monday against Performance Food Group Inc. Joe Vagi, a company spokesman, says the company has not received notification of the lawsuit and doesn't comment on pending litigation.

The commission alleges the company engaged in an ongoing pattern of refusing to hire women for positions at the company's distribution facilities. The lawsuit says the positions included such jobs as drivers, forklift operators, mechanics, transportation supervisors and warehouse supervisors.

The EEOC alleges that senior vice presidents and other high-ranking management officials repeatedly made comments to direct managers to favor male employees and discriminate against females in hiring.

The lawsuit has been filed in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
