St. Mary's College Names Interim President

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. (AP) -- St. Mary's College of Maryland has named a new interim president as it struggles to recover from its failure to enroll enough students for next year.

Ian Newbould will serve as interim president for the upcoming academic year. Newbould has been a university president in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom.

Newbould was named interim president on Monday by the board of trustees at the public liberal arts college.

St. Mary's College usually has a class size of about 450, but it's short by at least 100 students for the coming year, which could cost the school millions of dollars in lost tuition. President Joseph Urgo's contract is not being renewed, and he will leave at the end of June. Newbould starts on Aug. 1.
