David E. Vogt Announces Bid For Md.'s 6th District Seat

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The 28-year-old Marine veteran is formally announcing his bid for Maryland's 6th District Congressional seat.

David E. Vogt III of Brunswick announced Tuesday that he will seek the Republican nomination in the race for the seat currently held by Rep. John Delaney, a Democrat.

Vogt has never held political office, but he says he was prompted to run for Congress by the same "passion to serve" that inspired him to join the Marines

Vogt is looking to recover for Republicans the seat lost last year by Rep. Roscoe Bartlett. In the primary, Vogt will face former U.S. Secret Service agent Dan Bongino, who announced his candidacy earlier this month.

Vogt is challenging his competitors to set a campaign spending limit of $500,000 in the 2014 race.
