Man, 70, Dies In Mount Rainier House Fire

MOUNT RAINIER, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a 70-year-old man is dead after a fire in a Mount Rainer home.

Firefighters called to the home on 36th Street on Tuesday night found fire showing from the third floor and received reports that a person was still inside.

Fire officials say the man found on the top floor was unconscious and suffering from severe burns and paramedics pronounced him dead on the scene. Officials say two other residents heard the smoke alarm and were able to escape unharmed.

Officials say one firefighter sustained second-degree burns to his upper body and another injured his knee when a ladder gave way. Both were treated and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
