Ex-Md. Teacher Gets Probation For Explicit Photos

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A former Anne Arundel County teacher has been given probation after admitting to exchanging sexually explicit photos with a male student.

Erin Thorne, of Arnold, was also ordered at her sentencing hearing Wednesday to stay away from the man, now 19, to whom she sent graphic photos. She called her actions "inexcusable."

The Capital of Annapolis reports that the judge decided to spare the former Broadneck High School teacher from having a conviction on her record, instead granting her probation before judgment.

The 28-year-old Thorne was an English teacher and basketball coach, but her career was derailed after she exchanged explicit photos with a then-17-year-old student throughout the 2011 school year.

She resigned in April after facing criminal charges.

Thorne is to be on probation for one year.
