Man Charged With Macing Officer While Resisting Arrest In Severna Park

SEVERNA PARK, Md. (WJZ)— A Towson man is charged assaulting two officers upon arrest after barricading himself in his mom's Severna Park home.

It happened Saturday afternoon in the 500-block of Bayberry Drive in Severna Park.

Police say 26-year-old David J. Ruppert locked himself in his old downstairs bedroom.

His mom warned officers that her son may have been her home unauthorized with outstanding warrants.

Attempts to get Ruppert to come out were unsuccessful. Officers could see the he was armed with mace.

The scene was determined to be a barricade, and the Quick Response Team responded around 5:15 p.m.

During efforts to arrest Ruppert, police say he became combative and struck one officer with an object from the home and maced another officer.

Ruppert was ultimately Tased and taken into custody.

He is charged on the outstanding warrant along with burglary, two counts of assault on police and resisting arrest.
