Another Double Shooting In West Baltimore Has Residents Living In Fear

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Two people are dead after being shot several times in West Baltimore. The killings happened on Fulton Avenue and Baltimore Street just before noon.

It's just two of many homicides that have left the city in crisis.

WJZ's Rochelle Ritchie says residents near the scene are living in fear.

Police said the man and woman were murdered Wednesday in broad daylight. The violence spreading across Baltimore has more and more people too scared to go outside their own homes.

"Oh my God, this is ridiculous," a neighbor said.

Baltimore City Police responded to the double homicide in West Baltimore, right across the street from a children's playground.

"You can't even bring your kids outside to play. I mean, what if one of children is outside sitting on a porch and someone starts shooting and one of my kids gets killed?" a parent said.

WJZ cameras rolled as the victims were taken to the hospital, where they died.

"Both individuals were seated on the steps," said Lt. Col. Cliff McWhite, Baltimore City Police. "Apparently, an unknown suspect walked up, shot the victims multiple times and then fled on foot."

The shooting happened just four blocks away from Edmondson and Carrolton, where four men were shot sitting on the steps. They all survived with non-life threatening injuries.

The violence erupting across Charm City like a volcano, causing many to barricade themselves in their own homes.

"As much cleaning up and everything that change, it's like it's reverting back. Almost like history repeating itself," said Kathleen Wade.

Many neighborhoods--now in survival mode.

"It's got to stop. It's got to stop," a man said.

Since June 21, Baltimore has dealt with more than 50 shootings and more than a dozen homicides.

"All these people that got shot today, it's unreal. It's terrible," said Chardae Weems.

The frustration of the senseless crime--felt by residents. And the police department--committed to bringing criminals down.

"We're going to stay focused. We're going to stay aggressive," McWhite said. "The bottom line is--we're going to find out who did this."

The man who was murdered Wednesday was also shot a year ago, just a block away.

The names of the victims have not been released. The search for the suspect continues.
