PG County Education Board OKs New Superintendent's Salary

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- The Prince George's County Board of Education has approved a contract for the school system's new superintendent.

The Washington Post reports that board voted 11-0 on Tuesday to approve the four-year contract that would pay Kevin Maxwell $290,000 annually.

Board Chairman Segun Eubanks would not provide contract details, but said the final contract will be released to the public after it is signed.

County Executive Rushern Baker selected Maxwell, who was schools superintendent in Anne Arundel County, and state law requires board approval. Under legislation approved recently, the county executive now has more control over the county's school system, including the power to choose the superintendent and the chairman and vice chairman of an expanded Board of Education.
