Man Bitten By Rabid Fox Near Thurmont

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County authorities are urging residents to be on their guard after a man was bitten by a rabid fox near Thurmont.

The county's animal control office said Thursday that he was bitten July 4 while mowing his lawn.

The Frederick County Health Department says the fox tested positive for rabies.

Public health officials say a second fox that got into a fight with some dogs in Thurmont on July 8 also had rabies.

Authorities say that makes 26 animals from Frederick County to test positive for rabies this year.

They say people who see animals acting abnormally should avoid contact and call Animal Control at 301-600-1544.
