Alsop Signs 6-Year Renewal With Baltimore Symphony

BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has extended its contract with Music Director Marin Alsop for six more years to 2021.

The new contract announced Wednesday will extend from September 2015 to August 2021. This is Alsop's second contract renewal with the orchestra.

Alsop began with the BSO in 2007. Orchestra President and CEO Paul Meecham credits Alsop with revitalizing the organization and produced electrifying performances. She's also credited with reaching new audiences.

In a statement, Alsop says she's excited to lead the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for several more years. She says she has more ideas to benefit the orchestra and the community.

The BSO plays at Baltimore's Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and is the resident orchestra of the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda.
