Lt. Gov. Brown Announces Funding For Health Zone

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland officials are announcing funding for a health zone in Baltimore to help address persistent health disparities.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake have scheduled a news conference Monday to announce the funding for the West Baltimore Primary Care Access Collaborative Health Enterprise Zone.

It will be managed by Bon Secours Baltimore Health System in partnership with several local community organizations.

The designation was among the first five locations in Maryland to be designated as a health enterprise zone in January.

The initiative is a four-year pilot program with a budget of $4 million a year. Community coalitions in each of the five areas use incentives to address health disparities.
