2 Officers Injured While Subduing Detainee

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Maryland officials say two correctional officers at the Baltimore City Detention Center have suffered minor injuries while subduing an unruly detainee.

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said they were taken to a local hospital on Wednesday as a precaution.

The two were injured after a detainee who was being held on drug charges refused to return to his cell during a movement and struggled with the officers.

Officials say neither officer was taken by ambulance.

The state-run detention center is one of the busiest and largest pre-trial facilities in the nation. The facility has been under added scrutiny since a federal indictment was announced in April charging 25 people in a contraband conspiracy, including 13 correctional officers.
