Dispatcher Talks Howard County Dad Through Roadside Baby Delivery

ELKRIDGE, Md. (AP) -- Howard County police say a 911 dispatcher talked a man through the delivery of his son while the man and the baby's mother were in a car on the side of a highway.

Police say dispatcher Meghan Blizard got the call about 9 a.m. Tuesday. The man who placed the call said a woman was in labor and he had been driving her to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

But the birth appeared imminent and the man had pulled over on eastbound Route 100 just before Interstate 95 in Elkridge.

Blizard coached the man through the delivery.

The baby boy was delivered about 3 minutes after the 911 call was made. Shortly after, firefighters and paramedics arrived and took mom, dad and the new baby to the hospital.
