Jason Butt and Glenn Younes Talk Ravens 53 Man Roster

Ravens insider Jason Butt joined the Glenn Younes show to talk about the Ravens 53 man roster.

First, the guys talked about the reasoning behind trading WR David Reed for Colts RB Delone Carter. "The 75,000 dollars the Ravens save in this trade...confirms the suspicion that he wasn't going to make this roster." When it comes to why the Ravens wanted Delone Carter he said, "I have no idea what they're going to do with him. Maybe give him a shot in practice some. Ease it up on Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce the rest of the preseason. But he will probably get cut."

Then Jason talked about Aaron Mellette and Marlon Brown's chances of making the 53 man roster. "I think Aaron Mellette has done enough to deserve a spot. I think a guy like Marlon Brown on the other hand; he's a practice squad candidate…we'll get a good look at them this Thursday against Carolina."

Glenn later asked Jason what he tought about Pernell Mcphee's change of position from inside lineman to outside linebacker. "Pernell was playing a position where he was going up against guys about 35 pounds heavier than him…it was not an ideal situation for him." Jason went on to say that Mcphee will see less playing time because he has Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil and Courtney Upshaw ahead of him on the depth chart but he will thrive in this role more. "He's going to see a subtraction in reps but he should be a lot more explosive on the field."
