DNR Proposes 3 New ATV Trails In Western Md.

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on three new off-road vehicle trails proposed on state land in western Maryland.

The agency is holding a public meeting Wednesday night at New Germany State Park near Grantsville to discuss the proposals.

They include two trails along the slopes of Sideling Hill in Washington County. Each would be eight miles long, or 16 miles round trip each.

The department also is proposing a 14-mile round-trip trail in the Savage River State Forest near Frostburg.

The trails would replace 36 miles of off-road vehicle trails that were closed in 2011 to curb environmental damage.

The DNR says the new trails would be less harmful to sensitive natural areas.
