Local Man Whose Father Died Of ALS Hosts High-Flying Fundraiser

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Former Ravens star O.J. Brigance, who is battling ALS, now leads a foundation to find a cure for the disease. He is quick to share the credit with those who organize fundraisers for the Brigance Brigade Foundation.

Mike Schuh spoke to one of those organizers.

What does a fundraiser have to do with an old Cessna? If you're Justin Coulter, a lot.

WJZ first met Coulter and his dad late last year.

His dad had ALS and lost his ability to speak. Coulter was planning a fundraiser to find a cure.

"I do not try to think about ALS. I try to think about happy things," his dad said last year through a computer.

This year, in May, his dad died.

Remember the plane? Coulter's idea this year is to have a party to raise money for ALS. But this time he wants guests to make a grand entrance.

"We'll get 75 skydivers out here," he said.

And you know what happens next.

"They're all going to jump," he said.

But you just don't get to jump into Coulter's ALS party without going through one big hurdle.

"They've all raised money," Coulter said.

People like Bree Barmer raised a minimum of $200.

"I love to do this for a great cause, just for the opportunity. I feel blessed just to be able to do this," Barmer said.

Attendees are literally diving into the party.

Coulter's ALS fundraising party is $15 at the door. It's BYOB and will start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Harford County Airport in Churchville. All proceeds go to the Brigance Brigade Foundation.
