Frederick Gets More Federal Dollars For Airport

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The city of Frederick is getting more money from the federal government as part of a plan to expand a runway at Frederick Municipal Airport.

The Frederick News-Post reports the Federal Aviation Administration has approved a grant to reimburse the city for $3.8 million. The money went to purchasing buildings that are in the path of the expansion. Frederick spent $13.65 million to buy the properties. Alderwoman Carol Krimm says the FAA has reimbursed the city $4.7 million as of Wednesday and more is expected to be reimbursed in the next fiscal year.

The city began acquiring the properties about a decade ago.

City planner Tim Davis says Frederick still needs to prepare the land before construction and there's no time frame yet for completing the expansion.
