Delegate Melony Griffith To Run For Senate

LARGO, Md. (AP) -- Delegate Melony Griffith says she will run for state Senate.

The Prince George's County Democrat has scheduled an Oct. 15 announcement of her bid to represent District 25.

Sen. Ulysses Currie, a Democrat, currently represents the district. Currie is a former Senate Budget and Taxation Committee chairman. He was censured last year by the Senate for failing to disclose work for a grocery store chain that paid him about $245,000 over several years. He was acquitted of all charges in a bribery trial in federal court in 2011.

Griffith has served in the House of Delegates since 1998. She recently served two terms as chair of the Prince George's House Delegation.
