
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — It’s caterpillar contest time in Hagerstown.
The Hagers-Town Town and Country Almanack opens its annual contest Thursday, Oct. 10. The nation’s second-oldest almanac has for more than 30 years of tradition collecting woolly bear caterpillars for their supposed ability to forecast winter weather.
READ MORE: Baltimore Man Handed 40 Year Sentence In Beating, Death Of 2-Month-Old DaughterContestants have to take their woolly bear entries to the Sonic restaurant at 1710 Dual Highway in Hagerstown between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. The entrants who submit the cuddliest and biggest woolly bear caterpillars will each get $100 and a gift from Sonic, but every contestant who brings in a woolly bear caterpillar will get a free vanilla ice cream cone. Entries will be accepted until Nov. 15.
